PSA: some words you might not know are rude

buttart:
here are some words that are impolite to use that you may not know are impolite:
- midget/dwarf
- gypsy
- “gypped” (derived from gypsy)
- crippled
- retarded
- “ghetto” in reference to things that are shoddy/bad/unseemly
it’s okay if you didn’t know these words are rude but if you are reminded, or if someone tells you, all you have to do is try not to use these words in the future
that’s all
your effort in being polite and respectful to those around you will be appreciated!
“g*pped” is one I hear often used that people don’t seem to realize has racist origins. :C

Today was my first Anthropology class, and we started by going around the room and saying something interesting about ourselves, and I couldn’t really think of anything so I just said that I went to a Harry Potter conference, and my teacher asked what they did there, so I was like, “Well, it sounds kind of lame, but there are Harry Potter rock bands and they’re actually really cool.”
And then the girl next to me goes, “Wizard rock!”
And another girl is like, “Harry and the Potters!”
And the girl next to me goes, “Yeah, that’s the first wrock band!”
It was really startling. I guess I’m used to no one being into anything I’m into, so it’s weird to come here and have people actually know what I’m talking about.

“Back to Candles; it ties in brilliantly with the representation of both the characters and their future development. For example Blaine chose the song before he made his move; he previously stated that he was ‘not very good at romance’ so by choosing a song about getting over his lover he was preparing himself for a possible rejection. This was a wise move on his part because we have to remember the last time he made a declaration in a specifically romantic form (on Valentine’s Day no less) it backfired spectacularly. Even after they kissed, his insecurity hit him hard and he immediately said they should practice said song."
