“My thoughts are stars I can’t fathom into constellations.”

That’s a quote I just saw on my dashboard. Apparently it’s from The Fault in Our Stars, which I haven’t read yet. For reasons, it made me think of one of my favorite quotes of all time. From Elias Canetti.

“His head is made of stars, but not yet arranged into constellations.”

Was this some sort of accident…? Or is he deliberately paraphrasing Canetti for a reason? Do I need to read the book to understand? Or was it just old fashioned plagiarism?! Is John Green going to be expelled from writing?!

Does anyone know?

THIS. I found out about Elias Canetti’s quote a few weeks ago and have asked John about it in every way possible, but I haven’t gotten an answer yet.

I wasn’t sure if Augustus was slyly referencing Canetti, or if John was, or if this was just a totally unintentional coincidence.

John Green makes me sound smarter.

  • Student: So that's another thing that could cause cancer?
  • Teacher: What DOESN'T cause cancer these days?
  • Me: Cancer is a side effect of dying.
  • Teacher: *awed pause* WOW. That's a good one.

CALLING ALL NERDFIGHTERS! Help!!!

I am trying to reach John Green because I have a proposal involvingThe Fault in Our Stars, a play (yes, for the theatre), a project I started last year involving this video, and money raising for This Star Won’t Go Out.

If you personally want more info about my schemes, message me here.

John Green, if you see this, I will do anything to be able to discuss this idea with you. In my 18 years of life, nothing has felt more important.

Much of my life had been devoted to trying not to cry in front of people who loved me, so I knew what Augustus was doing. You clench your teeth. You look up. You tell yourself that if they see you cry, it will hurt them, and you will be nothing but A Sadness in their lives, and you must not become a mere sadness, so you will not cry, and you say all of this to yourself while looking up at the ceiling and then you swallow even though your throat does not want to close and you look at the person who loves you and smile."
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

courtneyanne-:

“There will come a time when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever exsisted or that our species ever did anything. There will be noone left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this will have been for naught. Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever. There was a time before organisms experienced consciousness, and there will be a time after. And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to ignore it. God knows thats what everyone else does.” - John Green; The Fault In Our Stars.

Hmm… I found a rather unimportant, yet kinda big typo/continuity error in TFiOS.

Under a cut, has quotes, but reveals absolutely nothing of plot, only discussing a minor character name.

If The Fault in Our Stars were ever to be turned into a movie, I would want Grant Gustin to play Augustus Waters.

A happy dance ensued when I found this on my porch. :)
